This year for Spring Break, my friends and I decided to go on a trip to Iceland and Copenhagen. I will be updating periodically throughout my trip so stay tuned!
Yesterday, was our first day here and we settled in by becoming acquainted with our surroundings in Reykjavik.
This is our view from the apartment that we are staying in for the next few days! We lucked out by ending up right on the water with this breathtaking view of the mountains. It’s more than I could have ever imagined!
We toured around the city and went to the Hallgrimskitkja Church, which is a big landmark in the center of Reykjavik. It gave a whole 360 degree view of the city! Today, on our second day here, we went on the Golden Circle tour. This took us around the southern part of Iceland. The tour itself was 8 hours long.
We started our bus tour by stopping at Pingvellir National Park. Here we saw the tectonic plates. They call the area between the North American Plate and the Eurasian Plate “No Man’s Land” because of the fact that we are technically standing in between two continents.
Fun fact: The TV series Game of Thrones filmed a few episodes here!
We took a few more stops along the way for some smaller landmarks and lunch. The next big attraction for us was the Gullfoss waterfall! It was bigger than we could have imagined and unbelievably beautiful. We just had to sit and take a moment to really let what we were witnessing sink in.
This tour was truly the perfect way to start this trip, and gain a real introduction to Iceland!
